What should people coming from Ukraine do when they arrive in Sweden?
They must contact the Swedish Migration Agency and register their arrival in order to be able to receive the help they are entitled to according to the Temporary Protection Directive. Read more here: Swedish Migration Agency External link, opens in new window.

I have picked up people fleeing from Ukraine. Can Värmdö arrange accommodation for them?
The Swedish Migration Agency arranges accommodation unless the person can arrange this themselves. People can also arrange accommodation themselves, for example with relatives (who can provide accommodation). It is important that those who arrange their own accommodation also register with the Swedish Migration Board, as registration is a prerequisite for having their rights met in accordance with the Temporary Protection Directive.

We have a Ukrainian family staying with us. Can we get financial compensation?
At present, it is not possible to receive compensation from either municipalities or the Swedish Migration Agency. The Ukrainian family can apply to the Swedish Migration Board for compensation for their expenses.

I have a Ukrainian family staying in my house. I have heard that the responsibility to arrange housing for Ukrainians has passed on to Värmdö Municipality. Will the municipality arrange other accommodation for this family?
No. If it is not possible for you to keep the family in your home, the family / person must contact the Swedish Migration Agency. The Swedish Migration Agency is responsible for ensuring that the family is assigned another place to stay. The Swedish Migration Agency strives to allow the family to remain in the same area in which it previously stayed in, but the accommodation can also be within another municipality.

Will Värmdö municipality open special housing or camps for refugees from Ukraine?
Värmdö municipality has reviewed the opportunities in order to receive those in need of protection and for those the Swedish Migration Board may assign from 1 July. The municipality is well equipped and can offer housing in different places in the municipality. No separate accommodation will be built for the purpose.

I am interested in opening my home for unaccompanied Ukrainian children. How can I do that? For the time being, we are blessed with enough possible emergency homes registered to cover the need for Ukrainian children. We are so grateful for that.

Can you arrange schooling for a child from Ukraine in Värmdö?
A Temporary Protection Directive residence permit entitles children up to the age of 18 to school in Sweden. To apply for a residence permit, the child needs to register with the Swedish Migration Board. The Värmdö Education Administration prepares for the reception of children and young people and, based on different planning scenarios, maps the capacity for reception in the various schools.
