The preparedness and reception in Värmdö

The Council of the EU decided to activate the Temporary Protection Directive in early March. According to law, the municipalities have a great responsibility to receive refugees. On 22 June, the Swedish government and parliament made a decision on a regulatory framework for a more even distribution of refugees in Sweden's municipalities. As of 1 July, the Swedish Migration Agency will start allocating Ukrainians in need of protection to municipalities, including Värmdö, according to their distribution list.

Värmdö municipality has well-established routines as being part of the Swedish social system of receiving refugees. The municipality has prepared temporary housing in order to receive and welcome Ukrainians in need of protection on behalf of the Swedish Migration Board.

All children and young people seeking temporary protection have the right to preschool, primary school and upper secondary school.
